If your doggo is an adventurous one then they may appreciate getting out in the elements and witnessing the rocky bay of Te Whau, which offers many great tracks to discover. Rocky Bay Omiha is a standout location and will provide some new sights and smells that differs from that of the many beaches. Just do be aware that Whakanewha Regional Park has quite a lot of tracks that are however shut off to dogs due to native bird protection. So it’s definitely worth checking the Te Ara Hura map beforehand to see if you and your dog can be explored safely.  One great walk along this piece of land is the Rocky Bay and Whakanewha Loop which is almost 8 kilometers of sights and sounds for your dog. This is a moderate walk so expect a bit of elevation and don’t forget to wear your best sneakers.

You could easily spend a good afternoon here too, with all of the numerous restaurants and cafes that allow your dog and you to come and dine together.

On the other hand, if wide open spaces are at the top of your list then you could also check out Te Toki Reserve. Home to a very enormous paddock area your pooch can roam free, shaking off that salt water and taking refuge from their well-behaved cafe experiences. Excitement will fill the air as your dog and you take in the lovely ancient pohutukawa trees and frolic in the cultivated paths. The great thing about this place is that it’s open all year round for dog owners, which is a relief when some of the beaches close in summer. At Te Toki Reserve you can always count on wide open spaces and the chance for your canine friend to exert all that enormous amount of energy they hold.

You might be wanting a more low-key walk and you will find just that in the Sacred Blessing Sanctuary Garden. If you fancy seeing some beautiful scenery while you go on your daily walk then you won't be disappointed with these lovely gardens which have both a stunning pond, unique flowers, and fernery.
